NO SHEETZ GAS STATION AT EASTFIELD & PROSPERITY CHURCH

We're your neighbors. And we're speaking up. Let's make thoughtful use of this corner.

  • What we want

    NO SHEETZ ON EASTFIELD

    • Five gas stations already serve the area within two miles.
    • We're asking City Council to deny the proposed rezoning at 12918 Eastfield Rd (Proposal #2026-042)
    • Sheetz may be a great gas station. But this isn't the right location for another one.
    • 🏘️ Our community deserves better use of this property (like a post office, library, or police station)

    The Numbers

Within just 2 miles of this proposed location, residents already have 5 gas stations serving the community.

Mecklenburg County already has 258 gas stations. Gas stations are not inherently dangerous, but Charlotte has specifically been the subject of academic research specifically examining crime and convenience-store environments.

This isn't about opposing business. It's about whether this particular location needs another gas station — and whether the additional traffic, access points and commercial activity are appropriate for this site.

Gas Stations Within a 2-Mile Radius:

    • Circle-K 4505 Hylas Ln, Huntersville, NC 28078
    • BP 5045 Ridge Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269
    • Circle-K 5335 Docia Crossing Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269
    • 7-Eleven 4800 Prosperity Church Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269
    • 7-Eleven 11065 Ellenwood Rd, Concord, NC 28027

    What We Want Instead

What could this site contribute to our community?

This is a prominent commercial location in a growing area. Rather than assuming another gas station is the best use, we'd like to see consideration given to uses that address needs residents actually experience.

    Then perhaps:

    📮 Postal services
    📚 Library/community space
    🛍️ Neighborhood-serving retail
    ☕ Local restaurant/café
    🏥 Medical/community services

We're not asking the city to promise that one of these uses will occupy the site. We're asking whether another gas station is truly the best use of a limited commercial opportunity.

    Tell City Council: Vote NO

Copy the text below & email councilwoman Renee Johnson (this district) to share your concerns. Share about why you would vote no for this gas station:

    __________________________________________

To the Office of Renee Johnson:

I am a local community member writing in opposition of the rezoing for a gas station at 12918 Eastfield Rd, Huntersville, NC 28078 (Proposal #2026-043).

I support responsible development in our community, but I do not believe another gas station is the appropriate use for this site without clear evidence of unmet demand. There are already five gas stations within two miles of the proposed location.

I respectfully ask City Council to VOTE NO to the proposed rezoning. Thank you for hearing the concerns of your constituents.

    Respectfully,

  • “We chose this neighborhood because we love living here. We just want to make sure the decisions that shape it reflect the people who call Eastfield home.”
