A Sheetz gas station is proposed immediately next to your child's daycare.
If your child attends Lightbridge Academy on Eastfield Rd, this proposed development could change the environment immediately outside the place where they spend their days.
We believe parents deserve to know what is being proposed and have the opportunity to form their own opinions.
WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED?

The property adjacent to the daycare (the vacant area around the daycare) is being considered for rezoning to allow development of a Sheetz convenience store and gas station.
Our concern isn't that Sheetz is a bad company. We like Sheetz. We simply don't believe a gas station is the right use for this particular location.
The proposed use would include:
⛽ A gas station with multiple fueling positions
🏪 A Sheetz convenience store
🕐 24-hour operations are expected (normal for all Sheetz locations)
🚗 Increased vehicle traffic entering and leaving the property
💡 Commercial lighting and illuminated signage
🚚 Regular fuel deliveries/tanker trucks and other commercial activity
This isn't simply another retail store. A gas station is a relatively high-intensity commercial use that brings continuous vehicle activity, fueling operations, lighting, deliveries, and other activity to the site.

Our analysis of nearly 200 gas stations and 150 daycares across Mecklenburg County found no other location where a gas station shares a property line with a daycare.
This proposal would create a situation we could not find anywhere else in the county.

WHAT DOES THE DAYCARE THINK?

We understand that the daycare's franchise owner has expressed support for the proposed development.
We respect that the daycare owner may have a different perspective on the project. However, we believe parents should have the opportunity to understand what is being proposed next door to their children's daycare and make their own decisions about whether they have concerns.
